While there are many underprivileged schools located in and around Sri Lanka, The Soup Bowl has identified three schools to lend a helping hand.
One of these is Sumaga Vidyalaya in Dehiwela, a small school serving children with special needs. At Sumaga, only around 15–20
children attend regularly. Despite their challenges, the school does its best to provide meals based on the funds they are able to
raise.
Through the generosity of our donors, we help ensure that each child receives a nutritious meal every school day—giving them the
strength to learn, grow, and thrive.
If you would like to donate, we raise Rs. 7000 (USD 24) per week.
The second school that we support is located in the picturesque tea
hills of Hanthana and is called Sivananda Maha Vidyalaya. Here the children hail mostly from tea plantations.
During Covid, most tea plantation workers were laid off and have not been able to find work with good wages. Some parents are addicts and are unable to take care of their children or place three meals on the
table.
The meal we provide is the only nutritious meal some of these children receive. The principal of the school says that school attendance has improved and that the children are more attentive.
Very recently we started supporting the upper school of Sivananda Maha Vidyalaya, where we serve lunch to 75 students once a week.
This project is generously sponsored by Hayleys (Pvt) Ltd., and we are deeply grateful for their support.
Thanks to their partnership, we’re able to serve wholesome, home- cooked meals that provide more than just physical nourishment. Together, we’re making a difference—one nourishing plate at a time.
